Rorate Caeli (2015)

SATB choir; organ

The evocative metaphors for righteousness and coming of the Savior in Rorate caeli are conveyed melodies of winding, arpeggiated chords, accompanied by the full sound of the organ echoing these sounds.

Thus, Consider This (2006)

SATB chamber choir, pno

text: Sandro Barros

6:30

Thus, Consider This is a short choral fantasy written in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. Based on a quotation from Mozart's Fantasie in D minor, which I remember playing as a child, this piece is a "personal" commemoration. I asked friend and writer Sandro R. Barros to write a poem based on this theme. Following his dramatic poem about the power one's past, the piece develops motives from the Mozart excerpt. As if conjuring up a forgotten memory, the actual quotation is revealed towards the end of the piece. With the haunting final words of Barros’ poem, the quotation "morphs" into a ritualistic chant, as if returning to the past.
